    We were recentlyso honoured to welcome Father Joe Pereira to MA&Y for a 2 day workshop on the teachings of the Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga. Father Joe Pereira is the founder of the Foundation which helps those affected by substanceabuse. He has worked alongside Mother Theresa and was a student and friend of BKS Iyengar. His workshops expand one's understanding of the spiritual dimension, as he takes us on a journey from the body, in physiology and neurology, through the subtle consciousnessof the soul. Focussing on self defence in confined spaces, this essential workshop taught us how to turn problems into opportunities and the environmentto our advantage! Self defence is all about personal safety and quick thinking. Finding yourself in a self defence situation when cornered or pushed into a wall does not mean game over, and under Linn's expert guidance, we took our ability to deal with attacks of this nature to the next level.     Philosophy Christopher Wallis, also known as Hareesh, is a scholar-practitioner with thirty years of experience, having been initiated into the practice of yogic meditation at sixteen, and fifteen years of formal education. His degrees include a B.A. in Religion and Classics from the University of Rochester, an M.A. in Sanskrit from U.C Berkeley, an M.Phil. in Classical Indian Religions from Oxford, and a Ph.D. in Sanskrit from U.C. Berkeley. His doctoral dissertation focused on the role of spiritual experience in the tradition of Tantric Shaivism.     Anatomy & Physiology Tim Goullet graduated with a B.Sc. in Sports Science and worked as a fitness consultant before training to be an osteopath. He has taught at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine for over 20 years and runs a busy clinic in Chelsea Triyoga.     Guest Teacher Originally an Ashtangi and with original teacher training in Ashtanga and Baptiste Power Yoga (and still with a lot of affection for those dynamic practices), Sarra has since trained with Mimi Kuo-Deemer and Judith Hanson Lasater. 
She now incorporates many aspects of somatic movement into her teaching and personal practice and believes in the enormous therapeutic power of learning to listen our embodied intelligence. She will often combine somatic enquiry, body-scanning, visualisations and body and heart-led movement with a more recognisably traditional vinyasa yoga flow.
